Use of editing techniques- still images

La Jetée - La jetée is a 1962 French science fiction film by Chris Marker. It is also known in English as The Jetty or The Pier. Constructed almost entirely from still photos, it tells the story of a post-nuclear war experiment in time travel. The film runs for 28 minutes and is in black and white. The story is told by a voice-over narrator. It is constructed almost entirely from optically printed photographs playing out as a photomontage of varying pace. It contains only one brief shot originating on a motion-picture camera.

This new type of film has given influence to a few films after such as films like 12 monkeys and a short film called La Puppe.

This is similar to our video as our video also consists of still images as a part of the underlying narrative. We made use of still images in the 2nd verse where the artist is speaking of a girl setting someone up this is backed up with a still image of the girl with her arm around another man. Although this could act as an enigma for viewers as they would not know what she is up to and engages them to appropriate the meaning of the scene how they please. This is a significant feature as it serves as a USP or our video as this is not a convention typically found in rap videos.

Evaluation Question 3

From my audience feedback I discovered that our video was successful in appealing to the target audience, some of the positive feedback being that the fast paced editing was effective as well as the still images and establishing shot to introduce the video and set the scene.

Areas of improvement based upon audience feedback are that we could have used more locations and had a larger cast as the artist is by himself throughout the whole video. Also the video could have had more of a narrative. Although I believe that the video contains a hidden narrative lying in the lyrics and the location of the different scenes of the video.
